Rishabh Pant has rejoined the India cricket team dressing room on Day 2 of IND vs ENG 4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. Ahead of play on Day 2, reports claimed that the southpaw has been advised 6 weeks of rest after sustaining a fracture to his left toe. Pant was struck on his leg after attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes on Day 1 following which the batter was carried off the field.
Pant rejoins Indian team in Manchester, but will he bat?
As per RevSportz, Pant was spotted at the Indian dressing room at Old Trafford on Thursday. He was seen wearing a “protective boot after fracturing his fifth metatarsal.” Before the day’s play, reports stated that the BCCI medical team might try to give him pain-killer injections to enable him to come out and bat but the chances were pretty low.
The southpaw was hit on his leg off a delivery from Chris Woakes which forced him to be carried off the field on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test. Pant was seen hobbling and writhing in pain and was struggling to put pressure on his injured leg as he was helped off the field. The selectors are looking to add Ishan Kishan to the squad for the 5th Test.
Rishabh managed to score 37 runs from 48 deliveries before he was forced to retire injured. As a result, India are short of a batter. It is pertinent to point out that Pant was spotted with crutches on Day 2, hinting that it was almost impossible for him to return to the field in this game.
Meanwhile, India lost a wicket in the 1st session of play on Day 2 as Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed by Jofra Archer for 20 runs off 40 deliveries.
