Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani heaped praise on Rishabh Pant for showing extraordinary courage by coming out to bat on Day 2 despite being injured. The southpaw braved a fractured toe to come out and bat on Day 2 of IND vs ENG 4th Test, despite being carried off the field on the previous day. DC coach feels Pant can be next India captian

Speaking on Sony Sports, Badani opined that Pant had decided to announce himself as the future lead for the team by deciding to come out to bat even after reports suggested that he was advised 6 weeks of rest. Dubbing it as a moment for the future, the DC coach claimed that the southpaw wanted to show the Indian team that he can be trusted, adding he had displayed it quite some times with the bat so far.

You have to bat and run with that foot. It was a moment of courage. He is telling the team that he is this team’s leader, that he is not just a normal player, and is going to be a future leader. He is the vice-captain for the time being, but he wants to be a guy who can be trusted. He has shown his batting many times, but this is a moment for the future,” Badani said.

Pant was elevated as vice-captain ahead of the IND vs ENG Test series and was named deputy to Gill. So far, in this tournament, a couple of centuries and half-centuries in six innings, turning out to be India’s second highest run-getter in the ongoing series.

Pant was forced to be carried off the field on Day 1 after he was struck on his leg while attempting a shot off Woakes. He was seen hobbling and writhing in pain, unable to put any pressure on his injured leg. However, he returned the next day, despite the BCCI confirming his injury, to play a handy and much-needed knock for India.
