El presidente de la Asociación de Cricket de Mumbai, Ajinkya Naik, reveló que fue Rohit Sharma quien convenció a Yashasvi Jaiswal para no mudarse a Goa

Former India captain Rohit Sharma reportedly convinced Yashasvi Jaiswal to continue playing for Mumbai instead of moving to Goa in the domestic circuit. Earlier this year, the southpaw had sought a NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to play for Goa after he was approached with a captaincy offer. However, weeks later, Jaiswal made a U-turn and conveyed his decision to continue playing for Mumbai.

Rohit convinced Jaiswal to stay back in Mumbai

As per Times of India, it was Rohit Sharma who asked Jaiswal to stay on in Mumbai at this point of his career. The southpaw reportedly communicated his decision to continue playing for Mumbai after heeding to the Hitman’s advice and consulting a few other cricketers who represent both Mumbai and India. MCA president Ajinkya Naik told the publication that Jaiswal’s request to withdraw the NOC for his move to Goa was approved by the body thereafter.

Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career. He explained to him that there was a lot of pride and prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times. Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must forget that it was because of Mumbai cricket that he got a platform to show his talent and go on to play for India, and he must be grateful to the city for that. It was here in Mumbai that he started playing cricket in the maidans and then was picked for all age group teams of Mumbai,” MCA president Ajinkya Naik said.

Jaiswal, 23, has been associated with Mumbai since his U-19 days. He made his first-class debut for the team in 2019 and has since built an impressive domestic record — 863 runs in 10 matches at an average of 53.93, including four centuries. In all first-class cricket, he has amassed 3,712 runs at an average of 60.85.
