The veteran kept India’s hopes alive after a collapse on Day 5, but copped criticism for his lack of initiative from a section of fans.

India fell to a narrow 22-run defeat in at Lord’s. Shubman Gill and Co had slipped to 82/7 before Ravindra Jadeja forged partnerships with the lower order to keep India in the hunt. Mohammed Siraj was the final batsman dismissed post Tea, with the ball rolling onto the stumps.

Jadeja stroked a patient 61, and allowed both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj strike. Following the defeat, the veteran was questioned for his tactics. Should Jadeja have attacked the bowling more and kept more strike?

Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar believes it is easier to make that argument in hindsight. He praised India’s lower order for taking the game deep in an interview with RevSportz.
