As per Times of India, Nair sustained a minor fracture on his finger after being struck by a rising delivery in India’s 2nd innings at the Kennington Oval in the IND vs ENG 5th Test. As a result, he will not be a part of the Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy. While it has not been specified as to how much time Karun will take to recover, it remains to be seen if the will still be in the scheme of things of the selectors for the future Test series.

“Karun Nair suffered a minor fracture on his finger after being struck on the hand by a rising delivery during the second innings of the Oval Test. Nair will not play for Central Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy,” the report stated.

With Karun Nair set to miss the domestic red-ball tourney, he could potentially be replaced in the Test squad by Shreyas Iyer. The report stated that the Mumbai batter is all set to return to the longest format of the game as the selectors believe that they need his class and experience in batting in the middle-order and playing spin. Given Nair’s poor form in England and his inability to convert his chances into big knocks, the selectors could might as well look beyond and give “dear cricket” no more chances in the future.

Duleep Trophy 2025 begins from August 28 and the final will take place on September 11. India’s home leg will begin with the first Test against West Indies on October 2, just days after the Asia Cup 2025 final.
