In the latest development, a report has claimed that Ishan Kishan cannot replace Rishabh Pant in India’s squad for the IND vs ENG 5th Test. This comes after a report earlier claimed that the southpaw will replace the Indian vice-captain after the latter sustained a fractured toe on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test in Manchester. Kishan recently took part in the County Championship where he was a part of Northamptonshire for a couple of games.
Ishan Kishan to not replace Pant in IND vs ENG 5th Test
As per Times of India, Kishan has 10 stitches to his left foot after falling off from a scooty. The report claims that while the selectors did try reaching out to the southpaw, he still has a plaster on his left ankle despite the stitches being removed off. Further, it has been reported that Kishan will begin his rehabhilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Benglauru.
“Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty. Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,” a source told the publication.
Meanwhile, Pant has rejoined the Indian dressing room on Day 2 of IND vs ENG 4th Test and was spotted donning the Indian kit. The BCCI confirmed that while the southpaw will not keep wickets for the rest of the game, he will be available to bat as per the team’s requirements.
The southpaw was hit on his leg off a delivery from Chris Woakes which forced him to be carried off the field on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test. Pant was seen hobbling and writhing in pain and was struggling to put pressure on his injured leg as he was helped off the field. The selectors are looking to add Ishan Kishan to the squad for the 5th Test.
Meanwhilke, Kishan last featured in a Test a couple of years ago in 2023 against West Indies. Subsequently, he was left out of the BCCI’s central contracts list in 2024. Since then, he hasn’t featured in an international game for India.
