El ex portero de India Deep Dasgupta se opuso a la decisión de la India de anunciar que Bumrah solo jugaría 3 pruebas antes de la serie Ind vs Eng
Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta believes India shouldn’t have announced the plan to play Jasprit Bumrah only for three Tests before the start of IND vs ENG Test series. The veteran pacer featured only in three Tests after a mutual agreement between the team management and the bowler owing to his workload management. Dasgupta suggested India to reserve Bumrah for crucial games while also objecting to his pick and choose policy.
“Can always take a call on Bumrah’s availability”
Speaking to news agency IANS, Dasgupta claimed that India could have avoided the premature announcement that Bumrah was only going to play three Tests in England. He said that a call always be taken on his availability depending on his physical situation.
“Well, I think India shouldn’t have announced the fact that he would be playing only three Test matches prior to departing for the series. I mean, you can always take a call on his availability as and when based on his physical situation and series scenario. But this thing of saying that he will be playing only three Test matches before the series has started, I think India could have avoided it,” Dasgupta said.
The former Indian keeper said that India cannot make Bumrah available for games at the start of the tournament if he was required for crucial games, adding that it depended on the inputs from the medical team. In the 3 games that he was a part of, Bumrah picked up 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls – one at Headingley and one at Lord’s.
“I mean, keep him ready for the crucial ones, and make sure he’s available for all games. Then obviously, if there are injuries, if the body has taken a toll and he’s not ready, that’s a different issue altogether. But this availability for 50%, 60%, and all, I think that needs to be looked into because he is by far the best bowler in the world right now,” he added.
