El capitán de Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, reveló que no retener Ashwin antes de la subasta de IPL 2025 fue una decisión de la que lamentó
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has revealed that his biggest regret was not retaining Ravichandran Ashwin before the IPL 2025 mega auction. After spending three seasons with RR (from 2022-2024), the Tamil Nadu spinner was released last year. Ashwin then entered the auction and was eventually bought by Chennai Super Kings for a whooping Rs 9.75 cr.
Samson regrets not retaining Ashwin
In a video on Ashwin’s YouTube channel, the CSK spinner asked Samson which decision of his would he change if he got the opportunity to go back in time. Sanju promptly responded saying that it was ‘not retaining Ash bhai.’ Even though Ashwin was released by RR, the team was involved in a fierce bidding war with CSK in an attempt to secure the services of the pacer once again.
“I think not retaining Ashwin bhai. We went so far (in the auction) to try and buy you. That’s the truth,” Samson said.
Ashwin registered for a basr price of Rs 2 crore. CSK was the first team to raise the paddle for the spinner following which LSG joined in. When the amount reached Rs 3.40 crore, Sanjeev Goenka’s team bowed out and RCB joined in. RR entered the bidding process when the amount reached Rs 4.60 crore. From then on, CSK and RR were involved in a fierce bidding war, until Sanju Samson’s side reached Rs 9.50 crore. CSK had the last laugh as they accquired the pacer for Rs 9.75 crore.
Samson’s revealation comes at a time when reports have claimed that he has sought his release from RR ahead of IPL 2026. Meanwhile, reports also claimed that Ashwin had also requested his release from CSK, just one year after joining the franchise. While CSK are reportedly interested in Samson, they aren’t keen on trading any players and want an all-cash deal instead.
