After three failures, Karun Nair was dropped from India’s playing XI for the Manchester Test. Sai Sudharsan took his place at number three. The other two changes were Anshul Kamboj making his Test debut, replacing Akash Deep, and Shardul Thakur coming in for Nitish Kumar Reddy.

He shouldered arms to an incoming ball from England captain Ben Stokes and had to walk back in disappointment. Gill’s dismissal was even worse than Karun Nair’s leave at Lord’s.
