Cricket Australia selló un patrocinio de $ 40 millones con Westpac durante 4 años, que palidece en comparación con el acuerdo de BCCI con Dream11
Cricket Australia have clinched a landmark deal with Westpac ahead of the home season. The banking giants have signed a four-year deal, reportedly in the region of $40 million. Westpac will feature at the front of both men’s and women’s team jerseys, ending CA’s long association with Commonwealth Bank. While it is a monumental deal for Australian cricket, it pales in comparison to rivals BCCI’s agreement with Dream11 for shirt sponsorship.
Cricket Australia seal $40m shirt deal with Westpac
In a media release on Thursday, Cricket Australia confirmed their partnership with Westpac. While the release did not specifically mention finances, the deal is in the region of $40 million as per Sydney Morning Herald. The partnership sees the banking giants featured on jerseys across all formats for both men’s and women’s teams.
They replace Commonwealth Bank, who held a 37-year association with Cricket Australia. CBA however had distanced itself from the men’s team, following the sandpaper gate scandal in 2018.
The $40 million AUD deal however still pales in comparison to rivals BCCI’s sponsorship deal. The Indian cricket board had sealed a massive Rs 358 crore agreement for 3 years with Dream11. The fantasy gaming platform appears on India’s jerseys across all formats, including the ongoing India vs England series.
BCCI earns almost 120 crore a year from Dream11. As for CA, the Westpac deal would see them bag $10 million AUD annually. That at current rate would see them make around Rs 56.27 crore. That would be less than half of BCCI’s windfall.
Australia have been by far the most successful team in cricket history. The Men in Yellow have 6 World Cup titles to their name, the most recent in 2023 when they defeated India in Ahmedabad. However, when it comes to money, there is no trumping the BCCI and Indian cricket’ robust economy.
