A Shubman a Gill se le ocurrió una respuesta salvaje a un periodista que había cuestionado la capacidad de la India para violar la fortaleza de Edgbaston antes de la victoria
India cricket team captain Shubman Gill came up with a savage response to those who doubted the team’s chances of winning a Test at the Edgbaston. The visitors outperformed England in all departments to not only secure their biggest away win (in terms of runs) but also to win a Test at the Edgbaston for the first time. Gill led the charge with the bat, scoring a 200 and 150 while Akash Deep and Siraj picked up 17 wickets in total.
“Don’t believe in stats or history”
Speaking at the post-match conference, Gill came up with a witty reply when questioned on India overcoming the odds and silencing critics who doubted the young team’s capability. The Indian captain categorically stated that he doesn’t believe in stats or history. He reiterated that the current Indian side was the best among all previous teams to come to England.
“I can’t see my favourite journalist, where is he? I even said before the Test match, I don’t believe in stats or history. In the history of 50-60 years, we’ve played 7 matches (at Edgbaston) over different courses with different teams coming here. I believe this is the best Indian team to be able to come here to England,” Gill said.
Eight captains previously attempted to lead India to victory at the Edgbaston previously but failed to do so. The likes of MAK Pataudi, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni among others couldn’t lead India to breach the fortress in Birmingham but a 25-year-old Gill did, by leading from the front.
Gill was named the Player of the Match for his 269 and 161-run knocks in the ENG vs IND 2nd Test. He became the first Indian batter to score a double century and a 150 in the same Test. India have now levelled the series 1-1 and will take on England in the next Test at Lord’s later this week.
