India win IND vs ENG 5th Test by narrowest of margins

India lost the toss for the 15th consecutive time and were put in to bat first at the Kennington Oval. Karun Nair tope-scored with a 57-run knock, finally breaking free from the shackles of poor form. While Sai Sudharsan managed 38, the rest of the batters faltered and India were bundled up for 224 runs in their 1st innings.

In response, England managed to get to 247 at the end of their 1st innings, thanks to a 64 from Zak Crawley and a 43 from Ben Duckett. Harry Brook ensured that England took a slender lead with his 53-run knock. However, Siraj and Prasidh wreaked havoc on the hosts by taking four wickets each. Eventually, the hosts were bowled out for 247 runs, a batter short as Chris Woakes had been injured while fielding.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a 118-run knock in India’s 2nd innings, along with fifties from Akash Deep (66), Ravindra Jadeja (53) and Washington Sundar (53) to help India set a record target of 374 for England.

In the 2nd innings, Joe Root (105) and Harry Brook (111) forged a 195-run partnership, bringing them close to the 374-run target. However, late strikes by Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, coupled with rain and bad light, halted their momentum, setting the stage for a dramatic finale. However, England needed just 35 runs to win the game and the series as well on the final day. As the Day 4 closed, England posted 339/6 with Jamie Overton and Jamie Smith on the crease.

However, it did not take long from India as Siraj struck twice and Krishna once to ensure India got a famous win at the Kennington Oval.
