Ind vs Eng, Prueba de Manchester: Washington Sundar golpeó solo su quinta prueba cincuenta, y primero después de una brecha de ocho entradas.
Washington Sundar brought up his fifth Test fifty, his first in the ongoing IND vs ENG series, as the visitors were well on their way to save the Manchester Test, on Sunday. The southpaw batter took close to 120 deliveries, 20 overs to bring the landmark, and forged a solid partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who in turn, brought up his fifty fifty of the series.
Washington Sundar Bails India Out of Trouble
He came in at a time when India had lost two wickets — KL Rahul for 90 and then skipper Shubman Gill for 103. But Washington Sundar looked like a man on a mission. He blocked everything that came his way, and looked in no hurry. What helped him from the other end was, even Jadeja looked pretty assured at the crease.
That meant, no unecessary risks were taken, as Washi struck his first fifty in Tests since December 2024, where he scored one in the Melbourne Test against Australia. In short, this fifty came after eight innings, for the southpaw, who is constantly under pressure to justify his position in the Test team.
Ravindra Jadeja Slams 50 Too
At the start of the Manchester Test, there were many who felt, Kuldeep Yadav should have been included in place of Washi, who is a wicket-taking player. But then, the all-rounder proved his worth with the ball too, after bagging two wickets in his 28 overs. In fact, he had the best economy rate of all the Indian bowlers — in an innings where England went on to pile 669 runs.
Meanwhile, a mini controversy had erupted during England’s turn to bat, when the capable Washi was only introduced into the attack in the 68th over. Many had questioned Shubman Gill’s tactics there.
